ENERGY IMPRESSIONS
This action drawing series explores my fascination with fluid movement through space coupled with self-propelling momentum and energy. Created on skates, these large scale autonomic works map my trajectories through space. Moving continuously, my reactions are confined to the lines directly in front of me. Unable to see the entire composition, I focus on my body movements and allow one line’s path to direct the next. When drawing on the asphalt streets, these ephemeral moments are preserved as digital records via video and photography. Applying this same technique to working on canvas, the physical drawing becomes a permanent impression of energy. Before beginning most archival impressions, I gradually build an atmospheric ground for the energy lines to be drawn upon. This more tangible record can be lifted off the ground and manipulated in the third dimension. Curving, contorting and piercing these canvases, the flat drawn lines extend into space and intersect with dimensional tubing. Pushing these drawings into the realms of sculpture and installation (as seen in my collaborative audio/visual work titled Sanctuum), the pliable plastic tubing is organically guided in and out of the canvas with ease and fluidity echoing the flow and spontaneity of the drawing’s origins.
